Lincoln Clay's most dangerous philosophy is "family isn't who you're born with, it's who you die for". And when you capture a territory you choose which of the three gets to run it, which can cause conflicts within the group. Starts promisingly, but soon slips into a tiresome, repetitive grind, never doing its unique period setting justice.

The story is well presented but lacks the spark you find in more straightforward RPGs. While those themes — especially racism — are new to the series, much of Mafia 3 feels shrouded in the legacy of 2010's Mafia 2, which received decent reviews but drew criticism for its empty open world.

Creeping into gang-controlled territory, quietly stabbing people, slipping money into my pockets, sneaking up on lieutenants and interrogating them, and causing mischief.
