Drove to Forrest Gump point and it wasn't that busy. Monument Valley is a dusky blue in the distance with that long stretch of paved road meeting the vanishing point. From the most iconic site within Monument Valley, the Mitten Buttes, take Indian Route 42 East 3.7 miles to the West and turn right onto US-163N. The sign is no longer there, which is a bit of a bummer, but if you love Forrest Gump it doesn't matter - you can tell exactly where you are! There was only 1 or 2 other cars at the time there so it was great to have the place. It's such an iconic spot to take a photo. For such a remote location, the Forrest Gump Monument Valley locations are actually quite popular. While the buttes look amazing up close, to find the perspective that’s in the movie, you want to be heading North on Highway 163 towards Mexican Hat, Utah. So be careful!
There is no walking to the site. From the most iconic site within Monument Valley, the Mitten Buttes, take Indian Route 42 East 3.7 miles to the West and turn right onto US-163N. Not easily accessible, the only way to get to Hunts Mesa is through an authorized tour guide via a ~2 hour off-road drive... Other than the spectacular landscape, the park really doesn't possess any of the attributes one would associate with the "wild west." Native Americans were selling jewelry at this spot so after we stopped to look at that, we found the sign. We found this to be well worth the stop. It's also simply an unbelievable view. Located on US-163, the famous view of Monument Valley featured in the movie Forrest Gump is not to be missed.

I really love the film Forrest Gump but I’ve never heard of it before. Stay safe and enjoy! The views from this point are beyond incredible - we were lucky enough to time our visit just right with a rainstorm and got to see a rainbow over the valley, too. The Forrest Gump Road. Conveniently located to lots of SW adventures! With your back to the buttes, you can’t see the engraving on it and it kind of just looked like a blank piece of wood, but once you get over to it, you’ll see the inscription. (Note: Monument Valley was blue late in the day – it might be orange-red in the morning hours or early afternoon when the sun angles in and illuminates it from the east). Drive an additional 8 miles at this point. At least, finding the Forrest Gump filming locations was one of the main reasons I went to southern Utah. It's wonderful with sunrise and sunset, can't wait to go back!! There were probably about 15 – 20 other people there wanting to take photos when I visited, but the nice thing is that there are plenty of different angels and perspectives to choose from, so it’s quite easy to get a shot without anyone else in it. I’ve heard that early in the morning is the best time to go for photos because of the light in the area, but I went in the middle of the afternoon (and it was actually kind of cloudy out as well) and my photos turned out fine, so I wouldn’t worry about it.
