That said, the National Trust have done a spectacular job on the upkeep and have transformed Fountains Abbey to a premier world class destination. Its extravagantly decorated interior is influenced by 13th century English Gothic styles and displays coloured marble, stained glass, a splendid organ, and painted and gilded figures in all their original glory. We stopped at the reading barn, did some drawing before ending up at the ruins where the climbed, played hide and seek, jumped and just had a perfect day.
