The graphics are lovely for a lot of the game, on both characters and surroundings, but seems to fall short in later levels and in the moving platform sections where the area seems to have been rushed and put together to simple give Zero a place to move about in. It’s too bad her human A.I. You’ll mostly be fighting foot soldiers or Devil May Cry-style demons, but occasionally you’ll be able to take control of Mikhail the dragon. January 17, 2014 - PlayStation 4 may have arrived, but that doesn't mean PlayStation 3 is dead in 2014. If you really want the full story, you’ll have to go through all four endings (with the last ending only accessible by collecting every weapon). The game opens with Zero killing the narrator, instantly setting the release apart from its peers. Even the sidequests are repetitive, with protagonist Zero returning to the same handful of places to acquire items before time runs out (a nod to the original Drakengard’s timed missions). If there’s ever another Drakengard, I hope the developers do it justice and invest in smoother technology and a better-written script. It’s poorly optimised, though, with jaggy blood spatters and low-speed animations causing the action to come to a standstill. The game magnificently captures the same feel that the original Drakengard had, although slightly less dark and a bit more humorous this time around. The most notable failing of Drakengard 3 is in its technical aspects: the default settings for the camera are horrible, and the cutscene volume feels far too loud compared to the in-game volume. Having heavy influences from Nier, a great game for fans and a not so quite great game for everyone else, and with a battle system that is familiar of the Dynasty Warriors Franchise, can this game break its way into the top charts for 2014?
This series sucked, and it has always sucked. The comedy is well placed the majority of the time, even catching me off guard sometimes giving me a chuckle here and there. The framerate suffers any time explosives are on the screen, sometimes dipping below 10 FPS as you order your dragon to hail fire on your enemies. Huge potential, equally huge disappointment. If you ignore all of the extra content – and that would mean knocking some forty hours off the potential playtime – you’ll probably enjoy the game more than someone who struggles through it all. Drakengard 3, the third release in the series and a prequel to the first game, this is the first game in the series to be developed by Access Games.
There’s plenty more to do beyond the main story, but the technical issues, as well as constantly replaying very similar levels, will be enough to annoy all but the most dedicated of Zero enthusiasts. February 5, 2014 - Square Enix has announced when Drakengard 3 will be released, and unveiled the game's opening cinematic. Either on disc or as a digital code to use on the PSN. This is a hallmark of excellence which I feel warrants the game a 9/10, in spite of its flaws. Aside from the mentioned framerate drops, the graphics are quite nice.
