I wanted to read details of Franny’s ultimate success and her reaction to finally feeling like she’s “made it.” Also there was a “love story” between her and Dan. Lauren Graham delivered the audio version exactly as I am sure she intended when she wrote the words--in the same deadpan style with which she delivers her lines on Parenthood. This book mostly read like an unending stream of consciousness by a neurotic woman who struggled with terrible low self esteem. Someday, Someday, Maybe is a novel of finding yourself, of finding others, and of finding love, in its various and complicated forms. After a bump in the road reading this (my precocious 12 year old daughter had some kind of issue with me, she must have been in trouble so badly to hide my book!

So, my expectations of Someday, Someday, Maybe were through the roof...which I guess ultimately set me up to be just a teeny bit disappointed. I've also spent an inordinate amount of time watching Lauren Graham interviews on YouTube...which means that I'm very aware of how funny, charming, witty, and clever she is (or at least the way she seems in those interviews). I do have to say—that quality of the daffy, whimsical, and insecure person wore a little thin for me. ”Someday, Someday, Maybe” by Lauren Graham. Someday, Someday, Maybe is a story about hopes and dreams, being young in a city, and wanting something deeply, madly, desperately. And then wait for the moment when it becomes glaringly obvious that said actor (or celebrity/singer/whatever) has deluded themselves into believing that just because they are good at/liked for doing one thing, they will be a success at another. I have to say I got this book because of my outstanding love for Gilmore Girls and Parenthood- or should I say my love for anything Lauren Graham. That is part of her charm for me. So, I hope all acting-wannabees understand a realistic deadline and to understand the gravity of sticking to it. So Someday, Someday, Maybe is not a novel that will shake the world, that will be a must-read for everyone, but it is a novel that is well-written with fun characters and an entertaining plot. But when Franny gets the script, she realizes she has to appear topless in one scene, forcing her to decide whether to report to the set or back out and maintain her dignity.
The writing is flawless and charged with feeling.
