Huddersfield Giants, the town's rugby league club, has won the Rugby Football League Championship seven times, most recently in 1961–62, and the Challenge Cup six times, the last time in 1952–53. Huddersfield has been a market town since Anglo-Saxon times. The largest projected increases are in the younger and older age groups, with projected decreases in the 25-34 and 45-54 age groups. Huddersfield has the merger of the shallow valley floors of the River Colne and the Holme south of the town centre.
