Bern’s native Paul Klee, a painter known for his abstract and surrealist works is one of the city’s most celebrated figures. Bern is situated in Switzerland’s Mittelland. Building started in 1421 and today the Munster is the largest sacred building in Switzerland. Climb 254 steps to the top of the cathedral to get a bird’s eye view of Bern and the surrounding area called the Bernese Oberland, the higher part of the Canton of Bern that has scenic landscapes with mountains, lakes and small picturesque villages tucked between the green hills. A) The Parliament Building. There are also awesome guided tours available in Bern if you prefer having someone walk you through the city. This is definitely one of the best places to take pictures in Bern. Bern is my favorite city in Switzerland and provides visitors with so many wonderful activities to do on your stay. Bern has probably been lowest on my list of cities to visit there, but you may have just changed my mind! There are lots of things to see and do at the Gurten for all ages. Wherever you choose to stay, youâll be treated to a friendly, compact city, bursting with history but still boasting the necessities of modern day living. After a fire in 1405 destroyed most of the original 11th- and 12th-century wooden buildings, the Altstadt was rebuilt in half-timber and sandstone.
BearPark is home to Finn, Björk and their daughter Ursina. I also highly recommend a visit to nearby Lauterbrunnen. The Bumbach/Schangnau ski area is small and family-friendly. Even though we made Bern our home base for a couple of nights, we only had time to see Bern in one day. However, the current is really strong in parts of the river, and there are also several dams, so if you want to swim in the Aare, make sure you do so ONLY in designated areas marked by signs.

Lucerne is only an hour and a half away, and the popular holiday town of Interlaken is the starting point for many magnificent trips into the alps, including the Jungfrau and Schilthorn. Switzerland has many well-known cities, and Bern certainly is one of them. C) Einstein House. The Nydeggbrucke is a bridge that connects the Old City Bern with the new part. Bern is an amazing city, and everyone should visit if they get a chance.
